Acticor Biotech Technology
Acticor Biotech product is an antibody (Fab) directed against a new therapeutic target of major interest: the platelet glycoprotein VI (GPVI). This project is based on the collaborative research work of Dr. Martine Jandrot-Perrus, Pr. Philippe Billiald and Dr. Christian Gachet on GPVI. This protein, cloned in the Inserm unit U698 (now U1148) by Dr. Martine Jandrot-Perrus’ team (patent n° US09/345,468), is considered one of the most promising targets for stroke treatment.
Treatment of ischemic stroke requires the urgent dissolution of the blood clot that obstructs the pathologic cerebral artery. This dissolution must not induce bleedings which consequences would be disastrous in the brain.
After years of research to characterize GPVI as a promizing target for anti-thrombotic treatments, Dr. Martine Jandrot-Perrus’ team collaborated with Dr. Christian Gachet and Pr. Philippe Billiald to design, produce and test a therapeutically active antibody with a suitable safety profile for clinical use.
A treatment such as this one will bring not only significant therapeutic benefits but also a positive impact on stroke medical and socio-medical management costs. This monoclonal antibody will meet the expectations of doctors and health authorities alike worldwide: it will be suitable to use in all patients, including those eligible to thrombolysis, whom will benefit from the combination expected improvement of efficacy and reduction of recurrence risk. For patients that are not eligible to thrombolysis, this treatment will be the only recommendation as of today, thanks to its innovative mode of action not inducing bleedings.
This therapeutic strategy is particularly interesting for the treatment of ischemic strokes where the need for therapeutic options is dramatic, but it will subsequently be tested in other ischemic pathologies including myocardial ischemia in particular.
